STPI-Gandhinagar is one of the 11 STPI jurisdictions having its main centre in Gandhinagar, Gujarat and one sub-centre located at Surat was established in 1992.
A major IT cluster in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar with presence of 200-plus IT/ITeS/ESDM companies, STPI-Gandhinagar has been the backbone for the growth of software and hardware industry in Gujarat since last three decades.
In FY 2020-21, STPI-registered units under STPI-Gandhinagar jurisdiction contributed Rs. 3,976.83 crore software exports.
STPI-Gandhinagar Centre become operational in 1992 and started providing statutory services to IT /ITeS units registered under the STP Scheme and hardware manufacturing units under EHTP Scheme. In 1992, STPI-Gandhinagar approved 19 units, of which 2 units commenced their operations.
The Role of STPI in the growth of the IT industry has been tremendous, especially in the case of start-up SMEs. STP scheme the catalyst The STP scheme is a 100 percent export-oriented scheme for the development and export of computer software, including export of professional services using communication links or physical media. This scheme is unique in its nature as it focuses on one product/sector, i.e. computer software. The scheme integrates the government concept of 100 percent Export Oriented Units (EOUs) and Export Processing Zones (EPZs) and the concept of Science Parks/Technology Parks, as operating elsewhere in the world. The total exports from the STPI-registered units under STPI-Gandhinagar has gone from Rs. 0.94 crore in 1992-93 to Rs. 3,976.83 crore in FY 2020-21. STPI units have shown an exponential growth from less than 10 units in 1995 to 244 units in FY 2020-21.
CoE in FinTech at STPI-Gandhinagar
STPI has proposed to set up a FinTech CoE at GIFT-City office of STPI-Gandhinagar with 50-seat Plug-n-Play space with the preliminary estimate of approx. Rs. 5 crore for a period of five years. The consents have been received from different stakeholders like Chief Mentor, Industry Partner, Academia & Startup Incubator, Industry Association, and Investment Partner for their support for the proposed FinTech CoE at STPI-Gandhinagar.
Fab Lab at STPI-Surat
STPI is planning to set up a mid-size Fab Lab with the support of Gujarat State Government at approx. 2,200 sq. ft. of built-up area at Ground floor of STPI-Surat Incubation facility with the preliminary estimate of approx. Rs. 6 crore for a period of five years.
STPI has expanded its presence pan-India since its inception in 1991 with 3 centres to disperse tech-driven entrepreneurship to Tier-II/III cities. Today, STPI has 62 centres of which 54 centres are in Tier-II/III cities. These centres have been playing a pivotal role in boosting IT/ITeS/ESDM exports from the respective region, generating employment, and fostering startups to develop software products.
